Guest: Tori Hope Petersen
Part 1
As a young girl, Tori Hope Petersen grew up in a home where she experienced abuse. As a result, she was placed into the foster care system and remained there until she was 18. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Tori discusses her testimony and memoir, Fostered: One Woman’s Powerful Story of Finding Faith and Family through Foster Care. Learn how Tori’s frequent moves between foster homes created instability, stress, and a lack of trust in relationships. But amazingly, she defied the odds and found Jesus in the process. She claimed Genesis 50:20 as her life verse, and as a result, she became an All-American track and field star at Hillsdale College and saw that what the devil meant for evil, God redeemed for her good.
Part 2
When Tori Hope Petersen was a pre-teen, her mom was diagnosed with bipolar schizophrenia. Sadly, that trauma, combined with physical abuse, forced Tori into the foster care system. The ensuing years saw her bouncing around 12 temporary homes. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Tim Clinton and Tori continue discussing her book, Fostered, and her experiences in the system. She shares how her high school track coach became a source of encouragement for her and ultimately adopted her in her late teens. With over 400,000 children in the system, Tori urges listeners to think about providing a loving home to foster kids in desperate need of stability.
